Member-owners of Alaska’s electrical cooperatives have the opportunity to choose their energy futures by voting. This page will feature news of the Spring 2024 utility board elections for the Railbelt co-ops. Stay tuned for candidate questionnaires, election results, and other news.

2024 Railbelt elections at a glance

  • MEA Elections

    • MEA members in the Susitna West and Susitna East Districts will elect directors.

    • 3 ways to vote

      • Online voting (started on April 4) via members SmartHub account; online voting ends at 5 p.m. April 29.

      • By mail (paper ballots were mailed to members in the Susitna West and East districts on April 4); ballots must be received by 5 p.m. April 29.

      • In person at the Annual Meeting on April 30 at the Glenn Massey Theater in Palmer (doors open at 2; meeting starts at 3 p.m.)

  • HEA Elections

    • HEA voters will elect Directors in District 1, 2, and 3 in 2024

    • 3 ways to vote

      • By mail—paper ballots were mailed to members on March 29 and must be returned by May 1st.

      • Online—Members can vote online through 5 p.m. on May 1 at the election portal (https://directvote.net/HEA).

      • In person at the registration table at the Annual Meeting (4:30-6:30 p.m. on May 2).

    • HEA’s Annual Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on May 2 at Homer High School.

  • CEA Elections

    • CEA members will elect two directors for four-year terms in 2024, voting opens on April 17. Members will also vote on two proposed bylaw changes.

    • 3 ways to vote:

      • Online—members should receive an email with instructions for online voting on April 17; online voting runs through 3 p.m. on May 17

      • By mail—members wishing to vote by mail need to contact the election administrator at 866-909-3549 to request a paper ballot. Mail-in votes must be received by the election administrator (mailing address in MN) by noon on May 16.

      • At the Annual Meeting on May 17 (registration starts at 5 p.m.)

  • GVEA Elections

    • GVEA members in Districts 4 and 7 will elect directors; all members will vote on proposed bylaw changes.

    • 2 ways to vote:

      • By mail—all members will be sent ballots in early May, voting opens on May 3, ballots must be received by 5 p.m. on June 4.

      • Online—members will receive postcards with online voting instructions in early May; online voting closes at 5 p.m. on June 4. For help with electronic voting you can contact the election helpline at 855-761-9111 or email goldenvalley@alaska-cpas.com.

    • GVEA’s Annual Meeting will by on April 25 (member appreciation event at 4:30 p.m., meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.). Candidates will have an opportunity to meet members and answer questions during the appreciation event). GVEA does not have voting at its Annual Meeting.
